Ideas & Innovation
Community-driven solutions and ideas for a better Westfield.
As Mayor, I will continue to serve as a respectful and open-minded conduit among councilmembers, residents, businesses, and town staff.
I am committed to fostering honest dialogue, thoughtful processes, and fair consideration of all perspectives. As ideas and initiatives progress through the proper channels of local government, I recognize that challenges and changes are part of responsible governance. My commitment is to uphold integrity, ensure transparency, share information openly, and engage constructively with all members of our community.

As Councilman, I am a member of the following committees / boards:
-
Financial Policy Committee
-
Public Safety, Transportation & Parking Committee
-
Historic Preservation Committee
-
Library Committee
-
Westfield Memorial Library Board
-
Affordable Housing Committee

As there are innumerable topics to cover, I have selected several to share my thoughts on:
Financial Policy/Planning
Having reviewed and provided input on each department’s finances during my time as Councilman and a leader on the Finance Committee, I remain committed to fiscal responsibility. A balance of assessing of town needs, growth, maintaining reserves, minimizing the tax burden on residents, and evaluating services is essential to sustain Westfield in both prosperous and lean times.

The budgeting process is complex and involves every departmental group in town. Working with our town professionals the committee will continue to be diligent in every aspect of the process.
Supporting Local Businesses Inside and Outside the Central Business District (CBD)
There are some things we can do in the short term and long term to better improve the experience for shoppers and business owners. We need to make it easy to do business with Westfield.

-
Consider transitioning from temporary barriers (cones and similar) to more integrated streetscape elements
-
Develop a phased, multi-year sidewalk replacement plan aligned with preexisting project agreements, addressing downtown sections systematically
-
Assess opportunities to support homeowners in sidewalk replacement, recognizing individual responsibility while exploring economies of scale. A comprehensive evaluation of scope, cost, and implementation strategy will be necessary
-
Expand the scope of the town events to more fully integrate and promote downtown businesses, enhancing visibility and community engagement
-
Explore opportunities to establish designated delivery pick-up and drop-off zones in strategic locations. This initiative supports efforts to reduce double parking, alleviate traffic congestion, and improve overall street safety
-
Where feasible, seek to maximize curbside efficiency by balancing street parking, loading zones, using time-based regulations to meet residential, commercial, and delivery needs
Development & Growth
Westfield’s growth must reflect the values and character of our community. I am committed to responsible development that prioritizes residents, preserves our history, and ensures accountability at every step.

-
Advocate for disciplined oversight of the One Westfield Place (OWP) project, ensuring it aligns with the character of Westfield and that developers remain accountable throughout its timeline. I will continue to work with the council to challenge the current scope and scale, traffic impacts and long-term traffic mitigation, and pursue opportunities for negotiation and meaningful improvement
-
Collaborate with council to align setback ordinances for new homes with the character of adjacent streets, preserving Westfield’s architectural integrity and neighborhood cohesion
-
Historical Preservation: continue to represent and protect buildings of historical significance
-
Westfield has put forward a thoughtful and responsible plan to meet its Affordable Housing obligation. While the plan has received 3 challenges, my commitment remains clear: I will continue to prioritize residents over profit and push back against predatory development practices in all situations
Parks, Fields & Recreation
Our parks and fields are where Westfield families come together, yet many need care and thoughtful planning. From expanding partnerships to investing in accessibility, my priority is to deliver safe, sustainable, and inclusive recreational spaces for every resident.

-
Day-One Priority: Expand the Town-Board of Education partnership to include all natural fields, not just one. Initiate remediation efforts—such as soil testing, overseeding, and aeration—based on best practices and Department of Public Works (DPW) recommendations
-
Share results of the Tamaques Park community input assessment (if not already completed in 2025) and actively pursue next steps in 2026, including funding requirements, design revisions, sourcing, approvals, resident feedback, and project timelines
-
Preserve non-active parks in their natural state, such as Brightwood Park, to maintain ecological integrity and passive recreation space
-
Explore the feasibility of relocating the hockey rink to the Tamaques Park
-
Evaluate the conservation center area to determine if a subsection is a viable for a new soccer / lacrosse field
-
Ensure that all town playgrounds are accessible to children of all abilities
Public Safety
Supporting our first responders is a core priority. Participating in last year’s active shooter drill where WPD, WFD, and WVRS worked seamlessly together, gave me firsthand experience and insight into the dedication and skill required of those who protect and serve our community with excellence.

-
Ensure continued talent recruitment and retention across both the Police and Fire Departments, recognizing that while well-funded, sustained excellence depends on attracting and supporting qualified personnel. Aim to expand hires to the WPD if and when the town requires an increased police presence.
-
Advance planning for the Westfield Fire Department’s future needs by leveraging the town’s recent purchase of property at Central Avenue and Sycamore, enabling potential expansion for larger bays and additional apparatus
-
Support enforcement efforts with the Westfield Police Department. Together with Councilmen Armento, Kiefer, and Saunders, we drafted Bill A3806 to address the rise in home break-ins and car thefts. I will continue to pursue active policing without prejudice, and continue to work with our state partners to ensure our police department is not handcuffed by state-level policies that limit discretion and enforcement of our laws and local ordinances
-
Maintain a strong focus on public and transportation safety, including pedestrian, bicycle, e-bike, and motor vehicle infrastructure and enforcement
-
Ensure adequate Westfield Department of Public Works (WDPW) staffing to support both ongoing maintenance and the successful implementation of new initiatives such as sewer maintenance / inspections / repairs / installation of inlets, leaf collection and snow removal
Ideas & Innovation
From honoring our veterans to celebrating milestones, Westfield deserves events that unite us. My focus is on expanding programs, reviving beloved traditions, and ensuring fairness in how every community event is supported.
-
Expand the Westfield Veterans Banner Program to include additional opportunities for veterans to be honored through the program
-
Determine the possibility of fireworks in Westfield for the 250th Anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence
-
Further bolster activities and events for families and young children
-
Revive the Westfield 5k Pizza Run a hallmark of our town
-
No community events will be summarily eliminated, and in all actions - the utmost value will be placed on fairness, supporting existing and pre-established community events and celebrations
